Javea Area

Javea is known as "The Jewel in the Crown" along the Northern Costa Blanca. It is a very popular area for families, people looking to retire or wanting to re-locate to this beautiful area and enjoy the great weather.

Javea is split into 3 areas:

The Arenal boasts the finest Blue Flag white sandy beach. There is a cosmopolitan and eclectic mix of restaurants and boutique shopping abound which has to be the best in the area for many miles. The distance from the Arenal to the Port is 2kms.

The Port area has a Marina with private boats fishing vessels where you can see the local fishermen unloading their daily catch and where you can buy your fresh fish in the adjacent market. The distance from the Port to the Old Town is 1.8kms. Take a stroll along the promenade and stop for a coffee and a local pastry. If you are feeling particularly energetic you can continue along the promenade to the Arenal and watch the various water sports.

The Old Town has quaint and cobbled streets along with traditional town houses. Cafes can be found serving local Tapas, paellas and special menus of the day for just a few euros. The local indoor market has fresh produce which can be bought daily. The local outdoor market on a Thursday (from 8am-till 2pm) which also has fresh produce and a variety of local arts and crafts to suit all tastes. The old town to the Arenal is 3.5kms. The weather in this area has 320 days of sunshine per year, and is considered to be one of the healthiest places in the world to live.


Local Information


Javea is a holiday destination and also many people choose to live here all year or during the winter months.

There are activities to enjoy. Below are just a few of them:

In the summer there are a range of water sports to choose from such as sailing, diving, surfing, canoeing and boat excursions to name but a few. The beautiful bay of Javea is sandy and shallow and ideal for children. There are many other beaches in the area including Ambolo, Granadella, Cala Moraig and Moraira beaches.

There are 8 excellent golf courses in the region including 2 in the Javea area. Javea golf club and La Sella. Many golf societies exist within this region. Javea and Benitachell have a green bowls club, both having great social scenes.

Javea tennis club is located in the Arenal area and has a restaurant.

Walking and cycling are also popular sports. There are many walks to enjoy in the beautiful countryside.

There are a wide range of clubs including a computer club, sports clubs such as dance, zumba, pilates, ti-chi, Padel and many more. Benitachell has a heated municipal swimming pool which can be used all year round. There are language classes available and just about any interest or hobby you have you are able do to it in this area.


There are private and state doctors available. For free healthcare you need to qualify ie. a pensioner, or working and paying taxes to the Government. There are private doctors and clinics in Javea and in many of the other towns. There are superb private hospitals in Denia and Benidorm. State doctors are available in most towns and there are also many 24 hour emergency centres available for basic treatment, diagnosis and prescriptions out of doctors hours. Denia has 2 hospitals for outpatient appointments, operations and there is an emergency department in the hospital on the outskirts of Denia.


In Javea there are state primary and secondary schools available. Classes are taught in Spanish/Valenciano (the local language) and English is also a compulsory subject. The nearest Universities are in Valencia and Alicante. Javea has 2 International schools and there is also the Lady Elizabeth International school in Benitachell.


There are many hotels available in the local area. In Javea you can choose a small hotel in the Port with sea views or choose to stay in a luxury hotel such as the Parador hotel in the Arenal area. Local Towns


Moraira is a small picturesque coastal town which is situated between Javea and Calpe. It has a beautiful white sandy beach and a marina. There are a variety of cafes and restaurants to choose from and a good selection of shops.


A traditional village situated 10 minutes drive from Javea and Moraira. Property prices are slightly cheaper than Javea and Moraira making it popular for all year round living due to its central location and easy access to the motorway. It has all the amenities you require ie. supermarkets, shops, banks, doctors, an indoor market and much more. It is famous for its beautiful natural beach and it borders the Granadella natural park.

Jalon Valley

Travel 20 minutes inland and you come across the Jalon valley with its stunning scenery and mountains, quaint traditional villages, superb restaurants and its bodegas where you can sample and buy the very good local wine. It is famous for its almond blossom in February. Further north in the Marina Alta you have the Orba valley dotted with villages and breathtaking scenery.


Denia is a coastal town 20 minutes north of Javea. From here you can catch the ferry to the Balearic Islands (Ibiza, Majorca, Menorca and Formentera). It has a large marina, a castle and sandy beaches which stretch for miles. The impressive Montgo mountain separates Javea and Denia . Just outside the town you have the hospital.


Calpe has two long beautiful sandy beaches separated by the famous large ?Ifach? rock. There is a large selection of hotels to choose from and Calpe is also famous for its fish restaurants in the Port area. You can wander around the old town where you can enjoy a meal or do some shopping.


Benidorm is a 30 minute drive from javea and is great for a day or evening out. It has Aqualandia, the largest water park in Spain, Mundomar (sea world) with live dolphin shows, Terra Mitica, an amusement park with themed rides, roller coasters and shows and Terra Natura, a wildlife and water themed park. In the evening there are plenty of shows, bars, discos and the famous Benidorm Palace.


Valencia is approximately a one hour drive and is Spain?s third largest city. Famous for its Arts and Science complex, L?oceanogrāfic , a complex of marine life. The Valencia Bioparc has many more attractions including the Marina area. There are an abundance of shops, department stores and shopping centres. It also has an airport and high speed train link to Madrid.


Only a one hour drive from Javea. The airport has daily flights to many European destinations. Ideal for a day out to enjoy shopping, dining and sightseeing.
